Early in the film, Jen confronts his estranged wife about their daughter. He says, “Grace can’t... grow up like this. Like, I did.” Set in small town rural America, among people struggling to maintain and others who are struggling to escape through drugs, CAN’T BUY GRACE tells the story of a hard-working father who has seen the people he grew up with, including his wife, struggle and fall victim to the economic crises and the methamphetamine plague. He is desperate to save his five year-old daughter, Grace, from that fate.
All film projects appear impossible at first. Developing and making a feature film is a long, difficult, and risky proposition. For that reason, I have two primary requirements for deciding to sign on to a project. First, the people involved must be capable, experienced, and talented individuals who I admire for their creativity, work ethic, and trustworthiness. Second, the story must be compelling, original, and relevant to contemporary audiences. Very few projects meet these criteria. But CAN’T BUY GRACE does.
We have a wonderful team behind our project. I have great faith in Craig Rice’s vision for CAN’T BUY GRACE and his ability to create a powerful drama that will excite and entertain audiences.
The choices the characters make and the actions they take from the opening moments to the end of the film, define them, and tell a compelling story. This film focuses on one man’s struggle to protect his daughter and preserve her innocence. It is a relevant narrative for our time that is heartbreaking and ultimately hopeful.
